Many of the problems we experience with photographs can be repaired Using Adobe Photoshop. These problems usually happen because of human error using the camera and scanner. This lesson will help you know which tools to use for specific problems we will have in photographs. The most important part of this lesson is to identify what each tool does and how the tool completes the corrections.
Repairing with the Clone Stamp Tool

The Clone Stamp tool copies the pixels from one area of an image to replace the pixels in another part of the image. You can use this tool to remove unwanted objects from your images, and fill in missing areas in photographs you scan from damaged originals.
An easy thing to remember about the Clone Stamp Tool is that it replaces the pixels in the area you are repairing with the pixels from the target area you selected.
To use the tool, you must:

To use the tool, you must:
- Identify an area of the photograph to copy. This is called a target area. To select the target area , place the Clone Stamp tool over the desired area to copy, hold down, the alt key on the keyboard, click the left mouse key. This creates a set of crosshairs to identify the exact spot of the image to copy. Release the mouse key and the alt key on the keyboard.
- Place the Clone Stamp tool over the area you want to repair. Use the mouse like a paintbrush by left clicking the mouse and dragging it over the scarred area of the picture. Continue until this area is repaired.
Retouching with the Spot Healing Brush Tool

The Spot Healing Brush tool is excellent for quickly retouching or removing blemishes and other imperfections from portraits and photos. It uses the pixels around the area that needs to be retouched or repaired. It matches the texture, lighting, transparency, and shading of the sampled pixels to the pixels being healed. Unlike the Clone Stamp and Healing Brush Tools, you do not have to identify a target area. The Spot Healing Brush Tool automatically blends the pixels in the gray area where you drag the tool to make the repair on the image.
An easy thing to remember about the Spot Healing Brush Tool is that it blends the pixels together in the area you where you drag the tool.
To use the tool, place the Spot Healing Brush over the pixels you want to repair, increase or decrease the size of the brush to cover the pixels that need to be repaired, left mouse click and drag over the area you want to repair.
You will see a gray line wherever you drag the mouse. When you are finished, release the mouse button. You will see the pixels blend together to create a more uniform area in the picture.
.
I have found that when I use this tool, it is best to use a smaller brush size and smaller brush strokes to make the repairs.

Repairing with the Healing Brush Tool

The Healing Brush Tool is a great tool to create more natural-looking touch-ups in areas that are not uniform in color or texture. It combines the capabilities of the Clone Stamp and Spot Healing Brush tools.
It works similarly to the Clone Stamp Tool in that you must identify a target area to copy onto the pixels that need to be repaired. It is done the same way as described in the Clone Stamp Tool section.

Repairing with the Patch Tool

The patch tool combines the selection behavior of the Lasso tool with the color-blending properties of the Healing Brush tool. With the Patch tool, you can select an area of the photograph that you want to fix and an area you'll use to do the fixing. Then you drag the Patch tool marquee to another part of the image. When you release the mouse button, the Patch tool does its job. The marquee remains active over the mended area, ready to be dragged again, either to another area that needs patching (if the Destination option is selected) or to another sampling site (if the Source option is selected).
